Avon Avenue

Roy and Avril have lived in their property for a number of years and deciding they wanted a change. Their existing property resides in the exclusive Avon Castle estate in Ringwood and they felt that their existing home did not respond to the unique setting of the site.

The brief provided was not restrictive on architectural style, but more on correcting the current problems they experienced with the existing house. This was mainly due to the properties position on the plot and large mature woodland that surrounds the site on three sides.

The neighbouring properties are predominantly bungalows built in the 1960s, and we set out out to try and integrate a large property over two storeys that would compliment the street scene. This was acheived by the creation of an individual building that also used some of the architectural treatment native to the surrounding dwellings. The mass and bulk was also cleverly orientated to make use of the movement of the sun around the plot, by introducing a glazed central element that channels natural light into the centre of the building.

Planning was achieved in October 2008 with the first application, and since then Roy and Averil have decided to wait for the appropriate time to take the project to the next stage.
